HISTORY / BACKGROUND
Border Ops Association (BOA) is a new union that has been registered as of April 2017 and signed a collective agreement with the Ministry for Primary Industry (MPI) on June 23, 2017.
BOA was started by MPI staff so that they have a choice and voice in how they are represented on employment matters. As a union that is internal to MPI, it is believed that this will ensure issues and concerns that are unique to our employment relationship with MPI will be the focus of any future discussions, including terms of employment.
This union is transparent, open, honest and support members in getting the best result in respect of issues that arise about their employment with MPI. BOA is committed to keeping their members updated on the progress of matters that concern them and want to ensure that all voices are heard.
BOA’s objective is to build an ongoing and constructive relationship with MPI management so that issues can be discussed and resolved as they arise, not only when a new Collective Agreement needs to be negotiated.
To achieve this goal BOA want to build a strong membership base that will allow us to have a strong voice when it comes to negotiations or when issues arise that affect BOA members. Strength in numbers will also ensure members spread any costs associated with achieving outcomes that
benefit all members.
